What is the Difference between 304 Stainless Steel Pipe and Carbon Steel Pipe?

Released on Jun. 21 , 2019

We often contact stainless steel pipes. When talking to customers, we are often asked about Carbon Steel Pipe. What is the difference between carbon steel pipes and 304 stainless steel pipes? China Carbon Steel Pipe Factory would like to share with you their difference.

Carbon Steel Pipe

The difference between 304 stainless steel pipe and carbon steel pipe is mainly reflected in the following points:

1. The 304 stainless steel tube is work hardened during cold working, for example, it has anisotropy when bent, that is, the lateral and longitudinal properties are different. The strength increased by cold working can be utilized, but if the bending area is small compared to the total area and the increase is neglected, the increase in strength can improve the safety factor to some extent.

2. The shape of the stress/strain curve is different. The elastic limit of the 304 stainless steel tube is about 50% of the yield stress. The value of the yield stress is lower than the yield stress value of the medium carbon steel in terms of the minimum value specified in the standard.

3. 304 stainless steel pipe has no yield point, usually expressed as ó0.2, the yield stress is considered to be the equivalent value.
